Weak Arabic Verbs – وصل

The Arabic root وص ل is the foundation for many different Arabic verbs and nouns that are super common in Arabic language media and everyday life.

In this blog post, we will be breaking down Arabic Verb Form I  of وص ل.

  • Form I – وصل – to arrive

وصل falls into an Arabic category commonly referred to as weak or irregular verbs. An Arabic verb becomes weak or irregular when one of its three root letters is a و or  ي. As a weak or irregular letter, و or  ي can change into vowels or be dropped from a verb.

To go one level deeper, وصل falls into the weak verb category known as ‘Assimilated Verbs’, because the و is the first root letter.

وصل as an assimilated verb is only irregular in the present tense, also known as the imperfect tense, when the و is dropped and is replaced by the letter that corresponds to the subject carrying out the verb.

  • He arrives – يَصِل – yaSil
